Appearance and character: D-calcium pantothenate is a kind of white powder, odorless, tastes a little bitter. Its aqueous solution shows neutral or faintly base, it dissolves easily in water, slightly in alcohol and hardly dissolves in chloroform or ethyl ether.

Physiological function: D-Calcium pantothenate functions as vitamins in feed, food and pharmaceutical industry. It is an ingredient of subsidiary enzyme. It can adjust the metabolism of protein, carbohydrate and fat, preserve the mucosa on the skin surface and shine of the hair( or feather), and moreover prevent diseases. It is especially indispensable to the growth, fat synthetise and catabolism of poultry, livestock and fishes.
Symptoms of calcium deficiency: Calcium deficiency will cause poultry and livestock to grow slowly, hinder their reproduction, lower heir adaptability. Main symptoms: rough skin, relustre of hair( or feather), or loss of hair, mucous secretion substance appear round the corner of the eyes; disorder of digestion, loss of appetite and diarrhoeal; low rate of hatch ability and high embryo mortality; crusts on toes and mouth and walking inharmonious, etc.
Dosage: The quantity of calcium pantothenate demanded by poultry and livestock is 10-20 mg per ration; Fishes-50-60mg per kg feed (dry substance); Fry-increased by 30%; Spawning fishes-increased by 50%; Shrimp-150-200mg.
